Horsemanship 101 (In-Person) Shepard Meadows Equestrian Center

Experience the world of horses through hands-on learning and mindful interaction. Learn about equine behavior, body language, grooming, and safe handling techniques. At the course end, students will be able to safely groom and handle horses, have an understanding of non-verbal communication, and how to mindfully interact with horses, as well as gain an understanding of basic horse care.

In this refresher course for drivers 50+ years old, students will review the challenges faced by aging drivers and receive guidance on how to continue driving safely. Students must bring their AARP card to class if they have one. A fee is due at the time of class, payable to “AARP”: $20 for members and $25 for non-members.

How to Play the Accordion: Beginner Level (In-Person) New England Accordion Connection

In this beginner course, led by the owner of the New England Accordion Connection & Museum Company in North Canaan, CT, discover how to play the accordion, the construction of the instrument, and how to read music notes. Although registered students will play available accordions on-site during class, students must have access to a piano-style accordion at home to practice their homework. An optional but strongly recommended textbook will be available for purchase in class for $25, payable directly to the instructor. Additionally, there is an optional $50 charge for sheet music, and accordions will also be available for purchase for those who wish to buy their own.

Introduction to Basketry (In-Person) Falls Village

This round-reed basket starts with a pre-prepared wooden base with flat/oval stakes already in place. Students will learn how to weave a 3-rod wale pattern, which will create a ‘swirl’ using round reeds in a color selected by the student. The basket is approximately 5 inches high, 9 inches wide at the rim, and 5 ½ in on the bottom.
