More than powwow drums and wooden flutes, Indigenous influences are at the heart of America’s music. This ear-opening class introduces groundbreaking artists building on the diversity and power of Indigenous music in North America. The author of Heartbeat, Warble, and the Electric Powwow (2016) and Rise Up! (2023) uses research-based stories, songs, personal interviews, and archival audio and video to survey more than 500 years of history, spirituality and musical evolution.

This class is for people who want to greet and have a simple conversation with Deaf people. Taught by an ASL college professor, this course introduces students to the history of American Sign Language (ASL) with an understanding of Deaf Culture. Participants will learn ASL grammar and signs to introduce themselves and carry on a basic conversation with Deaf people. Our workshop extends beyond the limited boundaries of wills and trusts and empowers families to create a comprehensive plan for the future of their dependents with special needs. It will provide an understanding of the critical legal and financial elements needed to provide lifelong support for a loved one with special needs. It also provides a unique opportunity to learn from someone who has personal experience with these same issues.

Learn to transform yarn and a crochet hook into a wearable garment. Taught by an expert knit and crochet designer, technical editor, and author, you will learn how to crochet a sweater that you’ll love to wear. Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to crochet a sweater; choose yarn; swatch; measure gauge; perform adjustments to a pattern; work increases and decreases; and do finishing. A supply list will be given to registered students prior to class. The cost of the materials (yarn, etc.) will vary based on the student's body size (how much yarn they'll need) and type of yarn (fiber content -- wool vs acrylic) they choose. Instructor will provide yarn recommendations, amounts, and an approximate cost in advance of the start of class.
