This course covers the fundamentals of narrative fiction writing for the page, stage, and screen. Create an original short piece of fiction, whether a short story, ten-minute play, or short film, exploring plot, character, setting, genre, and theme at a foundational level. Delve into the “DNA” of a story, including protagonist, goal, obstacle, and stakes; develop rich multidimensional characters by examining truth, lie, want, need, and wounds; and explore plot structures, such as the hero’s journey, three-act structure, and Freytag’s pyramid. This course also covers various themes, character arcs, worldbuilding, stylistic choices, and crafting techniques. A supply list will be provided on the first night of class
